Clinical framework

Dentofacial structure.
Respiratory physiology.
Coordinated assessment.

Airway-focused dental care considers maxillary transverse deficiency, sagittal jaw relationships, occlusal development, periodontal support, and orofacial function within a broader respiratory assessment. These domains overlap anatomically but require different diagnostic methods. A posterior crossbite is an occlusal finding; nasal resistance is a functional measurement; obstructive sleep apnea is a sleep-related breathing disorder.

The four disciplines below contribute to differential assessment, treatment sequencing, and longitudinal follow-up. Palatal expansion, tissue-release procedures, functional rehabilitation, and surgical planning each require a defined indication. Candidacy depends on the individual clinical findings; a shared symptom does not establish a shared treatment.

Where sleep-disordered breathing is suspected, dental findings support referral to sleep medicine or otolaryngology. An online questionnaire, an intraoral image, and a three-dimensional airway reconstruction provide different information; none should be used alone to establish sleep-apnea severity.

Different expertise.
A coordinated plan.

Our care model brings orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, general dentistry, and oral surgery into the same conversation. Each looks at a different part of your oral health, development, and function.

An examination helps determine whether a concern relates to jaw width, the bite, oral habits, teeth and gums, or a problem that needs medical assessment. Treatment is selected for that finding. Some patients need monitoring or additional evaluation before a procedure is considered.

Start with the question
you want to understand.

Creating appropriate space

Palatal expansion & the airway

The palate is also the floor of the nose. When the upper jaw is constricted, expansion can address a structural limitation that matters to the bite and, in selected patients, the nasal airway.

Pediatric oral function

Tongue-tie evaluation & treatment

A tongue attachment is assessed by what it allows the tongue to do. The goal is to understand a meaningful functional problem and choose care for that problem.

Pediatric oral function

Lip-tie evaluation & treatment

The tissue connecting the lip and gum is a normal part of the mouth. An evaluation asks whether that attachment creates a specific problem that needs treatment.

Supporting oral function

Myofunctional assessment & coordination

Resting posture and movement are part of oral function. A myofunctional assessment helps identify patterns that may deserve attention alongside dental and medical care.
